ARTICLE 1. This rules and regulation version may be supplemented or modified by the organization if necessary and justified. The final version will be posted on this page and distributed to all participants in advance.
ARTICLE 2. OCISPORT presents CANYON PIRINEXUS NON STOP CHALLENGE.
CHARACTERISTICS AND FORMAT OF THE EVENT
ARTICLE 3. CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE 2022 will be held between the 24 September early in the morning following the PIRINEXUS route clockwise.
ARTICLE 4. CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE is formally considered a cyclist brevet, as stipulated in the ACP and the Catalan Cycling Federation and therefore does not fall within the category of race. It is a personal challenge where each rider must respect the Road Safety Act and the Rules that apply to Catalonia and France, as well as any other regulations along the planned route by the organization, and does not have at all times any special priority over other road users that may use the itinerary planned by the organization. For the same reason the competent authorities on the matter may speak and act freely to their judgment and discretion.
ARTICLE 5. Neither the event promoter nor the technical organizer may be held responsible for accidents that may occur during the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE.
ARTICLE 6. In case a participant is seen by a member of the organization breaking any of the rules contained in the Road Safety Act and the road rules, he/she will automatically be disqualified from the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event and as logical consequence also, will lose the possibility of being recognised as Finisher.
ARTICLE 7. The organization may apply control and intervention measures to the riders for better development of the event. These measures can be known and explained to participants prior to the start of the event, or they may be implemented on the go. The general criterion is that every participant has to follow carefully any indication of the staff properly accredited as a member of the organization.
ARTICLE 8. The CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE is an endurance activity considered highly difficult given the characteristics of a event where you have to cover a cycle route on different types of pavement about 340 km long and 3,000 meters of accumulated high, in semi-autonomous conditions, meaning limited assistant support by the organization and external support teams.
CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
ARTICLE 9. To take part in the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event the participant must have registered in advance, through the event website www.thepirinexuschallenge.com or other possible alternative channels that will be determined.
ARTICLE 10. In order to take part in the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event the participant must be at least 18 and own a valid license from any cycling federation affiliated to the UCI. The organization may eventually offer a valid license for the duration of the test.
ARTICLE 11. This modality is based on individual participation or with a tandem (2 riders) and the whole route planned by the organization should be covered within a limited period of time.
ARTICLE 12. Participants at the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE have a maximum of 20 hours to complete the route. There will be checkpoints along the route with a maximum pass time. Beyond this time, participants will be asked to leave the activity and the organization will proceed to the removal of the devices and support facilities of the event. In any case, a participant exceeding these limits will be considered out of the event and therefore of the protection of the organization and is not eligible to be considered Finisher of CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE.
ARTICLE 14. The organization may establish measures to control the potential risk derived from riding at high speeds.
ARTICLE 15. We recommend that the participants may have a support team made up of one or two people who will be responsible to assist the cyclist during his participation in the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE. They travel with a private vehicle and will have access to some parts of the route to provide food, spare clothes and medication (if necessary). The support team must respect the traffic regulations and parking for each municipality. The support team has no right to the Finisher trophy.
ARTICLE 16. Bicycles allowed to be used in the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE are all those without any external pedal assistance mechanism, including tandems.
MONITORING AND VALIDATION OF THE ROUTE
ARTICLE 17. The itinerary mostly follows CANYON PIRINEXUS route (www.pirinexus.com) clockwise and combine the PIRINEXUS signs with a track followed thanks to the GPS technology. In those sections that the path doesn’t follow the PIRINEXUS route, the organization may put signs using some materials. In that case, participants will be informed in advance.
ARTICLE 18. In order to validate the route, different control systems will be combined: recording of the route via GPS, stamping the route card and checkpoints.Regarding the recording of the route via GPS, the system is based on the obligation of carrying a GPS device configured with the option of recording, and the possibility to ask any participant their GPS device for monitoring at any time. Regarding the stamping of the route card, the system is based on stamping a route card delivered by the organization at different checkpoints along the route. Regarding the checkpoints, this system will consist of setting up different checks along the route to verify that participants follow the itinerary provided by the organization. These checks can be known-communicated to the participants in advance or not – surprise check points.
AWARDS
ARTICLE 19. In order to be considered Finisher of CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE, the participants need to certify the completion of the route planned by the organization within a maximum period of 20 hours.
ARTICLE 20. The use of a GPS device is mandatory for all cyclists in order to take part in the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event. The GPS device must be configured to record the entire journey with a minimum frequency of 100 meters. It is the responsibility of each participant to deliver the GPS device with the recorded route to the organization at any time.
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT AND RECOMMENDED MATERIAL
ARTICLE 21. The compulsory equipment per participant is: a mobile phone, a GPS receiver (due to the length of the event it is recommended an additional external GPS battery), a cyclist license, a thermal blanket, a waterproof jacket, lighting device and half litre of liquid. In the NON STOP modality, in case you have a support team, they will have to bring the accreditation for the vehicle, a mobile phone and an emergency kit.
DROPOUTS
ARTICLE 22. If a participant is forced to or wants to leave the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event, it must be notified to the organization as soon as possible.
ARTICLE 23. The organization will not transport the participants that leave the event, this is a duty for the support team.
ARTICLE 24. At the time that a participant leaves the event, he/she accepts to be out of the participation and, therefore, assume any consequence from their withdrawal, like resigning from the benefits of being enrolled to the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event.
ARTICLE 25. The organization will have the power to withdraw participants from participation or stop them temporally when their condition may be a risk to their health or to others.
ARTICLE 26. Any CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE participants must provide assistance to those participants who may require assistance derived from a delicate situation of any nature or accident.
DISQUALIFICATION AND PENALTIES
ARTICLE 27. In order to ensure a good overall atmosphere and equality of opportunities for all participants, the organization may withdraw participants from participation or impose penalties based on a table of disqualification reasons and penalties to be published before the start of the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE.
ARTICLE 28. A CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE participant accepts by signing up, that he/she knows and accepts all these regulations. In the event that a participant doesn’t respect any article provided in this regulation, it may incur in a penalty that could be withdrawn from the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event.
RESPONSIBILITY
ARTICLE 29. People enrolled in the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE participate under their responsibility. On them rests the decision to start and complete the activity, and are solely responsible for their behaviour and the consequences arising, even against third parties. Therefore, explicitly frees the promoters and organizers of the CANYON PIRINEXUS CHALLENGE event of any accident that may arise from their participation.
ARTICLE 30. The organization accepts no responsibility for accidents or negligence of participants.
